Federated Farmers acknowledges the huge contribution Tim Mackle has made to the dairy sector, and thus to the New Zealand economy.
Tim, DairyNZ’s chief executive since 2007 and chief executive of its predecessor Dexcel since 2005, has announced he will step down from the role in June.

“Tim led DairyNZ through a period of immense industry growth that saw the sector become New Zealand’s biggest export earner and a vital industry,” Federated Farmers President Andrew Hoggard says.
“DairyNZ, under Tim’s leadership, has supported farmers to improve environmental performance and adjust to increasing regulatory compliance.”
“Tim has always been a pleasure to work with, he is well liked and well respected for his collaborative and positive approach to work.”
Feds wishes Tim all the best in whatever adventures he chooses to pursue next.
Dairy advocate
DairyNZ Chair Jim van der Poel said “On behalf of the Board I would like to acknowledge Tim and his huge contribution in his time as CE of DairyNZ to both DairyNZ and to dairy farmers. Tim has always been hugely passionate about helping dairy farmers navigate challenges they have faced and continue to face.
“We’re fortunate to have had Tim at DairyNZ through many challenging periods. Tim has played a key role in developing the R&D programme and the development of our science-based policy and advocacy function. He has been a strong leader and advocate for dairy. Tim is a values-driven leader and has built strong relationships with all those he has engaged with.
“I also wish to acknowledge Tim’s leadership and contribution to the wider dairy and primary sectors, through his influence on various boards, steering groups, and committees. Tim has always been a strong, passionate CE and he’s built a strong people culture at DairyNZ, with a highly engaged, capable and purpose-driven team. That puts us at DairyNZ in a great position to continue to deliver more for farmers and New Zealand.
“I would also like to personally acknowledge Tim. I have immense respect for Tim. Firstly, for the commitment and integrity that he brings to the role and the way he always conducts himself. And, for the huge intellect and passion he brings.”
Dr Mackle says: “I would really want to thank our wonderful team, the dedicated and talented staff of DairyNZ, our supportive and committed board, our partners, and crucially, our farmers. I am deeply passionate about farming, it’s in my blood, it always will be. I am lucky to have been able to work for farmers. Last but not least, my family deserve a special mention, and I owe a great deal to them in supporting me.”
The board will begin the recruitment process shortly.
