Mt Beautiful Cheviot A&P Show smokin’ hot and set for success

January 20, 2021 by Rebecca Flannery

Nothing beats a good A&P show, and in recent years the Cheviot Show has gone from good to outstanding.

This is mostly thanks to the enthusiasm of six locals who took on running and revitalising the show as a team in 2019. Mike and Elspeth Loughnan lead the group as co-presidents last year, Kate and Don Anderson this year, and Andy and Nicky Newton next year.

This year’s theme is “All creatures great and small”, and with great sponsorship provided by local rural businesses organisers have even been able to offer free entry to the Mount Beautiful Cheviot A&P show.

But what is really special about this year is the new barbecue competition. Organiser and qualified Steak Cook off Association Representative Glenn Manning  says barbecuing is a serious business all around the world and is becoming very popular in New Zealand.

And while the competition is fierce, with as many as 42 competitors, “don’t be shy” is Glenn’s advice.

“Out of nine competitions held last year, three were won by first time competitors who walked away with a golden ticket which allows entry to the World Steak Cook championships.” You can enter here.

The Mt Beautiful Cheviot A&P show is on the 13th and 14th of March more information here.
